Hurricane Preparedness Tips:

  • Meet with your agent to make sure you are have adequate insurance coverage.
  • Compile an inventory of your contents and their value. Pictures are an added plus.
  • Check for and remove branches and trees that may fall on your house.
  • Secure outside patio furniture.
  • Reinforce garage doors or replace if necessary.


After the hurricane:

If you have experienced damage to your home as a result of a hurricane, the following steps can help guide you as you put your life back in order.

  • Asses your situation putting safety first. Don’t proceed until it is safe to enter a room or house.
  • Make temporary repairs to prevent further damage. Should you have any questions call your agent.
  • Keep all receipts for any expenditure you have made for these repairs.

  • Prepare a list using your inventory of all damaged or destroyed personal property. This list should be as detailed as possible to include dates of purchase or age, and cost to replace.
  • Secure a detailed estimate of any and all repairs from a reputable contractor. Florida Insurance Planners can help with this.
  • Keep a written record of any conversations and with whom and date they occurred.
  • Take photos of the damaged property.
  • Keep all property to show to the adjuster.
  • Have floors cleaned. Dry furniture and place in a safe dry environment.
  • Clean draperies, upholstered furniture should be examined. Check with you agent about having furniture cleaned or repaired.
